The Sweetest Day in All Seven

Friday, March 14, 2008

The sun is setting on another day, Friday–the day of preparation as the Bible calls it. I heave a sigh of relief. Now, I can finally rest from all my worldly cares. Temporarily at least. I will voluntarily stop all my thought processes on all things non-spiritual until the sun sets again tomorrow, Saturday.

I used to think of the Sabbath as something unnecessary. Just another commandment in God’s Ten Commandments.

I realized the wisdom behind this commandment years ago when my days became busier and busier and all the more complicated. It eventually became my favorite day of the week. I long for it like a moth longs for the flame.

It is not only a day for me to physically rest. More than that, the Sabbath is a day for me to give my Lord and Savior my undivided attention. A day for me to celebrate in an extraordinary way our special relationship.

I wish for everyone to experience the peace, rest, and joy that God gives me as I celebrate each Sabbath with Him. It’s a special day not because I made it so, but because God ordained that day to be set aside for Him alone from the beginning of time. He made that day. And He is the one who made it special, too.

In all the Ten Commandments, it is the only one that does not say "Do not . . . " or "Thou shalt not . . . " In fact, it says "Remember . . . " I suppose He did this because we so easily forget. And because Satan did and still does all his very best through his human agents to cover up the importance of the Sabbath.

For now, I rest and commune with my Lord. Tomorrow’s cares and worries will just have to wait until the Sabbath is over.
